Advice on what to do next

At a glance

Puri Pharmacy’s £49 heart health check combines finger-prick cholesterol testing, blood pressure, height, weight and BMI with an in-person pharmacist review. We explain your results alongside your medicines and relevant health history, using a cardiovascular risk estimate where suitable. This is routine screening: it does not diagnose blocked arteries or replace assessment of symptoms. Available at our Southall and Hillingdon branches.

Your overall risk

The same cholesterol level can mean different things for people with different histories.

Your results explained

Understand which values were measured, which were calculated and why they matter.

The next step

Know whether to seek a GP review, further testing or other assessment.

Practical advice

Discuss changes to food, activity or smoking that are relevant to you.

Who is this check for?

High cholesterol usually has no symptoms. Speak to us about suitability if you feel well and:

What is included in your appointment?

Testing is one part of the appointment. The review brings your measurements and relevant history together so you can understand their meaning. The £49 appointment includes PocDoc testing, blood pressure, height, weight, BMI and a pharmacist review.

Finger-prick cholesterol test

We use PocDoc finger-prick cholesterol testing. A small blood sample provides lipid results during your visit; a sample may occasionally need repeating.

Blood pressure & risk review

Blood pressure, height, weight and BMI help put your cholesterol in context. QRISK3 is used only when suitable.

Pharmacist explanation

Discuss the findings, practical advice and the next action. Further tests, treatment or specialist appointments are arranged separately if needed.

Heart health testing in our community

300 tests over three days. PocDoc’s March 2026 partner report records Puri Pharmacy’s involvement in a neighbourhood programme at St Mary’s Church in Heathrow Villages, working with The Confederation, Hillingdon.

That community programme is separate from this private appointment. It demonstrates our experience bringing testing to local people; it is not evidence that screening prevents every heart problem.

Featured in Training Matters

Training Matters featured Rahul Puri and the Puri Pharmacy team discussing accessible PocDoc testing and the conversations it opened up about heart health.

What happens at your appointment?

From booking your appointment to a clear explanation of your results.

1. Book and prepare

Book your £49 check online. Contact us if you have questions about suitability or your preferred branch. Bring your medicines list and any previous results.

2. Have your check

Attend for the finger-prick sample and agreed measurements. The PocDoc test takes around 10 minutes; allow additional time for preparation and discussion.

3. Understand the result

Discuss what your results mean and whether further assessment is needed. We clarify the next action rather than treating a number as a diagnosis.

What does the cholesterol test measure?

PocDoc measures blood fats, known as lipids. Some values come directly from the sample; others are worked out from those measurements. We explain the actual report you receive. Read PocDoc’s product information.

Ask Rahul

Rahul Puri, pharmacist at Puri Pharmacy

Bring the question behind the number.

“Why are there several cholesterol values?” “Does my family history change the next step?” “Will I need another test?” Bring your full report and medicines list so the discussion can consider the context, rather than one isolated result.

Your questions, answered

What the assessment can tell you, how to prepare and what happens after your results.

No. A lipid test measures blood fats; it does not show your arteries or rule out heart disease. A reassuring result does not explain chest pain or other new symptoms. Screening and investigation of symptoms are different clinical tasks.

No. An ECG records the heart’s electrical activity. PocDoc measures blood lipids. These assessments answer different questions, and an ECG is not included in this appointment. Read about our separate ECG screening service.

No. QRISK3 estimates ten-year cardiovascular risk for an appropriate population; it does not diagnose disease. NICE recommends it for suitable people aged 25–84 without established cardiovascular disease. Some conditions and treatments require a different approach, so tell us about diagnoses and medicines, including statins.

PocDoc is a non-fasting cholesterol test, so you do not usually need to avoid food or drink. Follow any specific instructions given for your appointment or a later laboratory test. Do not stop prescribed medicines unless your clinician advises it.

The test is designed to provide results during the appointment. Preparation, measurements and discussion take longer than the test itself. Occasionally a sample cannot produce a usable result, or further testing is needed. The team will explain the next step and any applicable arrangements.

The in-pharmacy appointment includes help with testing, clinic blood pressure and a pharmacist discussion. Support offered with a home kit varies by provider. Our focus is explaining the result in your wider health context and helping you understand what to do next.

You may be eligible for an NHS Health Check or another locally available NHS service. Eligibility and availability vary. Ask your GP or our team before choosing a private appointment. A free NHS blood pressure check is a separate service and does not automatically include a PocDoc test.

We consider the result with your history and explain the appropriate next action. This could include a repeat test, GP review, further investigation or more urgent assessment. Do not start, stop or change medicines solely on the basis of a screening result.

Key takeaways

  • PocDoc provides cholesterol-related results from a small finger-prick sample.
  • The pharmacy discussion puts those results in the context of your health and medicines.
  • A risk estimate is not a diagnosis, and screening cannot rule out every heart condition.

Urgent symptoms: call 999 for sudden chest pain that does not go away, especially with breathlessness, sweating or pain spreading to the arm or jaw. Do not wait for a screening appointment.

Clinical information: NHS cholesterol testing; understanding cholesterol results; NICE cardiovascular risk assessment; PocDoc product information.
