Should I check my heart health?
You may want to consider an assessment if you:
- You play sport regularly and want to understand more about your heart health.
- Your club is arranging screening for players, coaches, referees or volunteers.
- You have a family history of heart conditions or sudden unexplained death—discuss this with a healthcare professional.
- You experience chest pain, palpitations, unexplained breathlessness or fainting during exercise—seek medical assessment rather than waiting for screening.
- A normal ECG does not rule out every heart condition. Screening does not guarantee safe participation in sport or provide a fitness-to-play certificate.

Through this partnership, we’re bringing resting 12-lead ECG screening to the club, with a UK cardiologist reviewing the recordings through our Cardiologic pathway. Our aim is to help identify concerns that may need further assessment and make heart health part of player welfare.

How much does a private ECG and cardiologist consultation cost?
Private heart assessment prices vary by clinic and what is included. Published provider examples put an ECG with an initial consultant cardiologist consultation at around £275–£360. Some clinics include the ECG in a package; others charge separately.
When comparing prices, check whether you are paying for an ECG recording, specialist interpretation, or a full consultation with a cardiologist.

Why consider cardiac screening if I feel fit and healthy?
Fitness does not rule out an underlying heart condition. Some conditions may cause few or no obvious symptoms. Screening can help identify findings that need further assessment, but it cannot detect every condition or guarantee safe participation in sport.
What is a 12-lead ECG?
An electrocardiogram, or ECG, records your heart’s electrical activity, including its rate and rhythm. A 12-lead ECG provides several different views of that activity to help a clinician interpret the recording.
What happens during the appointment?
Your relevant medical history, family history and symptoms are reviewed. Electrodes are positioned on your chest and limbs, and you rest while the ECG is recorded. You will need to expose your chest for electrode placement. The recording is then sent for cardiologist review.
Is the test painful?
A resting ECG is usually painless. No electricity is passed into your body. You may feel slight discomfort when the adhesive electrodes are removed, and some people experience minor skin irritation.
Is an echocardiogram included?
No. Our club screening offer includes a resting 12-lead ECG and cardiologist reporting. An echocardiogram is a separate ultrasound examination of the heart’s structure and function. If further tests are recommended, these require separate arrangements.
Can I use the result as clearance to play sport?
This screening is not a fitness-to-play certificate. Participation advice depends on your symptoms, history, findings and any requirements set by your sporting organisation. Follow any recommendation for further assessment.
What if a relative died suddenly at a young age?
Tell your GP, especially if the death was unexplained or involved a suspected inherited heart condition. You may need specialist family assessment rather than a standalone ECG. Please also disclose this history when enquiring about screening.
How much does club screening cost?
Club screening costs £37 + VAT per participant, including a resting 12-lead ECG and UK cardiologist reporting. Event arrangements and any additional charges are confirmed before booking. Further investigations, specialist consultations and treatment are not included.
Will my club receive my medical results?
Clinical results are confidential. They are not automatically provided to your club. Any sharing follows the applicable consent and clinical information-sharing arrangements.
How should I prepare?
Wear a top that is easy to remove and avoid applying lotions, oils or talcum powder to your chest before the appointment. Follow your booking instructions and complete any requested questionnaire. Contact us beforehand about accessibility needs or chaperone arrangements.
Who reviews my ECG?
Puri Pharmacy records your ECG using the QT Medical PCA500 system. Your recording is reviewed and interpreted by a UK cardiologist through the Cardiologic pathway.
When will I receive my results?
We confirm the expected reporting timeframe and how you will receive your result before booking. Cardiologist review is separate from recording the ECG, so a final result may not be available at the appointment.
What happens if my ECG shows an unusual finding?
An unusual finding does not automatically mean you have a heart condition. Further assessment may be recommended to understand its significance. You will receive guidance on the next step, which may involve your GP or a cardiology specialist.
Does a normal ECG mean my heart is completely healthy?
No. A normal ECG does not exclude every heart condition. Some problems may not appear on a resting recording. Seek medical advice about symptoms or a concerning family history even if your ECG has been reported as normal.
Who can enquire about screening?
Players, coaches, referees, volunteers and other club members can enquire. We confirm individual suitability and age eligibility before booking. For under-18s, we must also agree on consent and safeguarding arrangements.
What if I have symptoms already?
Do not wait for a club screening event. Chest pain, fainting during exercise, unexplained breathlessness or palpitations need medical assessment. If you suspect a heart attack, or someone collapses and is unresponsive, call 999.
Can you screen participants at our club?
Contact us with your location, expected participant numbers and preferred dates. We will discuss availability and the requirements for a suitable private screening space before confirming an event.
Do I need screening every year?
There is no single interval suitable for everyone. Repeat assessment depends on your age, symptoms, family history, previous findings and sporting requirements. Ask the reviewing clinician for individual advice.
