Changing Weight Loss Providers: How to Plan a Safe Handover

Changing weight-management provider should preserve continuity of care. Price can prompt the discussion, but a transfer also needs your treatment history, a clinical review and clear responsibility for follow-up.
Before requesting a transfer
Write down why you are considering a change: affordability, communication, access to reviews or concerns about the current plan. Specific examples help a receiving clinician understand what support is missing.
Keep access to your existing provider while the transfer is assessed. Do not arrange overlapping prescriptions or make a treatment change because a new appointment has been requested.

A practical transfer checklist
- Gather your records: medicine name, prescribed dose, start date, recent prescriptions and the date of your last dose.
- Explain your response: weight trend, nutrition, side effects and any missed doses or breaks.
- Ask about the review: what information is needed, who will decide suitability and when you should expect a response.
- Confirm the handover: who handles the next review, questions and any prescription if treatment is appropriate.
Compare the whole service
Ask for current written fees and whether reviews, support, delivery or other charges are included. A low headline price does not tell you how a concern will be handled. Equally, a higher price alone does not demonstrate better clinical care.

What if there has been a treatment gap?
Tell the receiving clinician before using any remaining medicine. Do not assume a previous dose remains appropriate after an interruption. If you are unwell or experiencing concerning symptoms, seek the appropriate medical advice rather than waiting for a transfer decision.
