What your £65 earwax appointment at Puri Pharmacy includes
Get practical health advice and updates on Puri Pharmacy services straight to your inbox.
When an ear feels blocked, the first step is understanding the cause and choosing appropriate care. At Puri Pharmacy, our £65 clinic appointment includes an ear assessment, wax removal from one or both ears where suitable, and aftercare advice.
At our Southall and Hillingdon branches, ear care sits within a community pharmacy service with independent prescribing pharmacists, NHS Pharmacy First and private prescribing consultations. If wax removal is not the right answer, our team can explain your options and help you find the appropriate next step. Any separate consultation or treatment fees are explained before you agree.

What happens during your appointment?
1. We examine your ears and discuss your symptoms
Your appointment starts with the symptoms you have noticed and your ear history. Our trained pharmacy team examines your ears and explains whether there is wax to remove and whether treatment is suitable. Tell us about previous ear surgery, eardrum problems or difficult treatment experiences.
2. We explain and carry out suitable wax removal
Puri offers microsuction and irrigation. The method depends on the findings and your ear history; we explain the proposed procedure and relevant risks before you decide. The £65 clinic fee covers one or both ears when removal is needed and appropriate. Allow up to 30 minutes for assessment, treatment and advice.
3. You leave with advice and a next step
We explain aftercare and what to do if symptoms continue or further assessment is needed. If hearing remains reduced after wax treatment, the NHS advises seeing a GP. Ask us about preparation before attending; our microsuction appointment guide explains what to expect.

Access to pharmacist prescribers when you need further care
Our pharmacy team includes independent prescribers. If an examination suggests another problem, such as an infection, we can explain which assessment or treatment route is appropriate. A suitable pharmacist prescriber can assess and prescribe within their clinical competence; some concerns need GP or specialist care.
NHS Pharmacy First
Our branches provide NHS Pharmacy First. For earache, the established pathway covers suspected acute middle-ear infection in children aged 1–17, subject to eligibility. Eligible consultations are NHS-funded, with normal NHS prescription charges unless exempt. You can access this service without paying for a private consultation first.
Private prescribing
For ear discomfort or other concerns outside the available NHS pathways, a private prescribing consultation may be suitable. The team checks your symptoms, prescriber availability and fees before booking. The outcome can be advice, a prescription when appropriate, or referral.
These are separate services: private prescribing consultations and medicines are not included in the £65 wax-removal fee. Any further appointment and charges are discussed before you agree. We check whether an NHS service is appropriate before arranging private care.
Clear fees, including when wax removal cannot go ahead
If no wax is found or an infection prevents removal, the clinic assessment fee is £25. If removal needs another appointment, we explain the reason, preparation and any further charges before you agree; a free repeat visit is not automatically included.
For patients who prefer treatment at home, we offer £120 home visits, including assessment, suitable removal and aftercare. The home assessment charge is £65 if no wax is found or an infection prevents removal. We normally cover addresses within approximately five miles of either branch, subject to availability; enquire with your postcode.
Common questions before booking
Can you help if I am unsure whether it is wax?
Contact your branch and describe the symptoms and when they started. We can advise which appointment is appropriate. Ear pain, discharge or a change in hearing may need a different route; follow the urgent advice above where applicable.
Will I see a prescribing pharmacist at my earwax appointment?
Our team includes independent prescribers, but the earwax appointment is delivered by an appropriately trained team member. If you need a prescribing consultation, tell us when enquiring so we can confirm the right clinician, availability and any separate fee.
Is wax removal covered by Pharmacy First?
Our routine wax-removal service is private. NHS Pharmacy First has specific conditions and eligibility criteria, including the children’s earache pathway described above. Some GP surgeries offer NHS wax removal or referral; the NHS earwax guide explains these options.
