Why should you have earwax removal?

Earwax does usually fall out on its own without the need for treatment. However, earwax build-up can give cause:

  • earache
  • difficulty hearing
  • tinnitus
  • an ear infection

Olive oil ear drops can soften the wax to help it fall out. We recommend using them at least 3 to 5 days before your appointment. If you’re having trouble finding a great ear drop, come to the pharmacy and we will assist you in purchasing one.

Doctors will often forward people with earwax problems to us for advice and treatment. So you may wish to save yourself a trip to the GP and come straight to Puri Pharmacy for advice and treatment.

Earwax Colour: What Does It Mean?

Ear syringing, now largely replaced by irrigation, uses water to flush out wax. However, microsuction is considered safer and more effective.

What is Curettage?

Microsuction earwax removal uses a vacuum to gently remove any excess wax from your ears. It’s one of the most effective services for cleaning your ears and is carried out by one of our accredited Pharmacists at Puri Pharmacy.

Please soften the wax in the 5 days before your appointment

It’s important that the wax is soft to make the procedure as comfortable and effective as possible.

We recommend using medicated oil drops, or a spray such as Olive Oil, once per day in the affected ear and repeat for 5 days.

You can book an appointment using our online form, or you can call our pharmacies to book.

The procedure is usually pain-free, however may feel a little funny at times. We use the latest technology which will safely remove wax from your ears.

GPs at the doctor’s surgery no longer provide earwax removal services. Some doctors may refer you for earwax removal to your local hospital, however this varies across the UK.

We provide a low-cost, safe and effective service and work closely with your doctors to ensure your ears are looked after.
