Acute Sinusitis (Sinus Infection)

Acute Sinusitis involves the swelling of the sinuses and is often caused by an infection. This condition is very common and typically resolves by itself within 2 to 3 weeks. However, if it lingers, our Pharmacist can support you with medications to speed up your recovery.

Symptoms of Acute Sinusitis

It’s not uncommon to experience sinusitis following a cold or flu. Here are some signs and symptoms to be aware of:

  • Pain, Swelling, and Tenderness: Sinusitis can cause swelling around your cheeks, eyes, or forehead.

  • Blocked Nose: You may have a blocked or stuffy nose.

  • Reduced Sense of Smell: Sinusitis can temporarily affect your ability to smell things.

  • Nasal Discharge: Green or yellow mucus may come from your nose.

  • Sinus Headache: Because of the swelling, sinusitis can cause headache

  • High Temperature: It’s possible to develop a fever along with sinusitis.

  • Toothache: Surprisingly, sinusitis can even cause toothache.

  • Bad Breath: Be aware of any changes in your breath.

Sinusitis is a common infection after a cold or flu and is usually caused by a virus. People usually get better within 2 to 3 weeks without antibiotics.

Our Pharmacist is able to provide steroid based nose sprays to help relieve the symptoms caused by sinusitis. In most cases, antibiotics are not needed, however if you do require antibiotics, we are able to provide this for you too. 

We work closely with our GPs and can refer you, should you need to see a Doctor.
